Prof. Ozer Arnas

A. Özer Arnas received his BSME-Robert College, Istanbul, MSME-Duke University, and the PhD in ME-North Carolina State University. He has taught at Duke and NC State universities as an Instructor starting in September 1958, gone through the ranks at Louisiana State University, August 1962-January 1986, where he is now a Professor Emeritus. He taught at the California State University System's Chico and Sacramento campuses and retired from San Jose State University in December 1992. He was a Lecturer, Robert College, Istanbul during March 1969-June 1970; a Consulting Professor, University of Costa Rica during February 1967-April 1968; Visiting Professor and Research Fellow, Institute of Thermodynamics, University of Liège, Belgium during September 1, 1972-June 30, 1973 and again during September 1, 1979-July 18, 1980; Visiting Research Professor, Institute of Heat Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands during November 1, 1979-June 30, 1980; Visiting Professor, Department of Energetics, University of Florence, Italy during April-May 1988; Norcus Research Professor, Battelle Pacific Northwest Division, Richland, Washington during June-August 1992; Visiting Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, the University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA during January 1993-1996; Visiting Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Boğaziçi University-formerly Robert College, Istanbul during 1996-1998; Visiting Professor, Department of Energy Engineering, University of Padova, Italy during February-April, 2007, Visiting Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Polytechnic of University of Sao Paolo, Brazil during February-March, 2014, Visiting Professor, Department of Heat Transfer and Flow Engineering, Abo Akademi University, Turku, Finland during May-June, 2014 and is now a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY since August 1998. He is a LIFE FELLOW of the ASME. He served as Technical Editor-in-Chief of the ASME Transactions, Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 1985-1996, as the United States Editor for The International Journal of Mechanical Engineering Education, 1985-1996, as the founding Technical Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Applied Thermodynamics, 1998-2002. He is the author/co-author for over one hundred seventy communications on Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Energy Conversion, Mechanical Engineering Design and Mechanical Engineering Education and has a United States patent, #5,493,855 Turbine Having Suspended Rotor Blades issued on February 27, 1996.
